That is, if there is availability. If you're traveling on a Saturday, you're probably in decent shape for a Platinum EAU. I've been eyeing that route, and Sat. seems fairly consistent.
Miles can't be redeposited if you get the EAU, because once you're upgraded you're out of the running...really no way to tell.
You can probably get the EWR-IAH-ANC if it was ticketed as a single fare EWR-IAH-ANC. Don't know how it did w/ your MCI segment though, so they may get picky.
Question for the board:
How is the meal service on this? Same as a transcon?
