DL allocates (budgets, if you will) a certain number of award seats on each of its own flights. Every major carrier does this. Sometimes that allocation gets exhausted. It happens. Not everybody that wants F seats to HNL over Memorial Day weekend is gonna get them. But here's a news flash for you - not everybody that wants award seats on any major carrier is gonna get want they want 100% of the time.

will to budget for awards on AF-KL. That much is now certain -- at least to me. It was not a seat limitation, it was a financial austerity measure. Even CO was not as "austere" as DL in this regard (and CO is no true friend of frequent flyers).
