"BA to become low-frils?
Insiders report that British Airways is to launch BA Red. 12th August 2005
Top EXCLUSIVE: Revealed on AirReview FIRST! Sources working for British Airways regional operations report that the airline is planning to relauch in September with all jet fleet of EMB145's, RJ's & Boeing 737s. All the Dash 8 fleet will be axed. Routes to Shannon, Zurich, Cork, Nice, Pisa, Rome, Stuttgart, and Venice (plus Birmingham to Rome & Vienna) will be permanently cut.
Business class is reported to be cut, as are inflight meals and service. This change is similar to the change that the new Chief Executive of BA, Willie Walsh, made at AerLingus a few years back. This change revolutionised the carrier, and made it profitable again. However passengers flying BA do so for different reasons to that on the Irish Carrier, and, as with BA's shortlived offshoot Go, Industry Watchers debate if this move will continute to bring in valuable business revenue on longer, thin, routes.
