Opinions on hotels in Bali greatly differ from one person to another. I for one luuuuuve the GH in Nusa Dua, even if it is in a tourist town with little or no local culture left. When we're there (usually for 2 weeks), we always rent a car and do one day of laying back on the beach or by the pool and the next day we tour the island. Everything on Bali is without any problem doable in a one-day trip, one doesn't have to be based in Ubud, but again, this is just my humble opinion
