Their mint chocolate chip is fabulous and they've been known for years for their giant shakes called Awful, Awfuls. Note of interest, Friendly had that name for their shakes in the fifties, sixties until Newport Creamery rightfully....read legally...claimed it around 1970. Their ice cream is delicious and their shops feel so comfortable, rather old-fashioned service....at least I hope it still is, since I've not been for a couple of years.
Newport Creamery actually filed Chapter 11 a couple of years ago, and closed some restaurants. But many others have stayed open, and the company is still in operation. In fact, the company is trying to "redesign" itself, and they are opening up new restaurants called Newport Cafe. (One just opened in Narragansett, RI.)
Yes - they still have the Awful, Awfuls!
