With oil approaching U$65 a barrel, AC won't be the only airline to hike their surcharge. This is forcing almost all US carriers into bankruptcy who are not already there. The cost of airline fuel is rising even higher than crude so this only adds to the pressure. Since these are private companies, they are in the business of making profits for their shareholders and the only way that can be done is covering operating costs.
