Device w/ a laser in carry on bag?
I am traveling from the US to Austria next week and need to bring several small electronic sensors with me. One is a temperature/humidity sensor, the other is an infrared thermometer.
The first sensor should be no problem but the second might be. It has a small laser on it and I'm worried about it being confiscated by TSA or by airport security in Austria. It is not high powered - a <1 mW Class II laser. It's similar to a small handheld laser pointer that one might use for giving a presentation.
I searched the TSA website and couldn't find laser pointers on their "Prohibited Items List", but as I'm sure we're all aware that doesn't mean an individual screener can't determine it to be "hazardous". And I don't have a clue about what international authorities might do.
Should I just put it in my checked baggage and hope it gets there? At this point it's too late to ship.
