Let me reiterate that based on my most recent stay (combined with YEARS of staying here for work over the past 12 years), I certainly wouldn't call this place a dump or an embarrassment to *wood. IMO, that goes too far.
This place does have some work to do before it's a well run, contemporary facility again, but in my experience, it is in the middle of the pack for the Sheraton brand.
Any of us can have a bad (even awful) experience once in a while at a property that is otherwise perfectly acceptable most of the time for other guests. I have fairly high standards, I think (see OP above), and will stand behind my B- rating for this hotel. With the new bathrooms on the way, that will go a long way towards significantly improving the room experience.
FWIW, I will also add that I have never stayed in the type of room that a previous poster mentioned as being tiny and gross. The standard rooms of this hotel are actually larger than industry standard, I'd guess by perhaps 15-20%. Perhaps there is a small inventory of lesser rooms from the very original building (1960s) that I've not seen......
Lastly, I cannot overstate the staff's resounding sentiment that under the previous local management, the staff was a working team and a significant component of the staff had been on site for 15+ years when he left. Now, most have chosen to leave. I did, indeed, sense a tremendous decline in staff quality over my previous stays here years ago.......
