Not if you add a second name to the reservation. Either can check in.
That's how all award reservations work with SPG, btw.
You can give an award to whomever you wish but your name remains on the reservation... whether you're ever going to be there or not... SPG just adds a second person's name to the res.
Your SPG # stays attached. I've earned points on rooms I've given to others where I haven't been present and haven't paid for incidentals myself, btw.
(Yes, I'm willing to admit that, and anyone from SPG is welcome to audit my account and remove the points if they wish, it's not that many points and I'm not entitled to them. I'm just sayin' that's how it sometimes works.)
