As long as the two airlines have an interline baggage agreement, there would be no problem even if they are not a part of the same alliance. I have done this many many times. If you are transferring to the other airline wihin 24 hours even different baggae rules are not a problem. It's possible one may run into an agent who would try to squueze some cash from one. But if one is fir, confident and polite, that can be overcome too.
