Not to paint all Asian airlines with a broad brush, but I think it's safe to say that most of them have been bettered by the introduction of Western-style Crew Resourse Management techniques. I recently had to do a little research into post-war Asian business structures, including some airlines. Seemed to be a rigid heirarchy and almost universal deference to the captain in most cockpits and boardrooms... kind of scary.
Management and training is much advanced these days, I'm sure. I know KAL was once banned from launching new routes into the US until they got their operational house in order a few years back.
