^ ^ to LoneStarMike for creativity. A couple of points, however... (and LoneStarMike certainly can't be faulted for having fallen for some of the propaganda spewed out by the DFW and AA folks):
1) Although DFW is a public airport, it is entirely funded by private dollars. The original bonds associated with the opening have long since been paid off. All of the recently completed improvements (Terminal D, Skylink, and Grand Hyatt) were financed through the issuance of revenue bonds backed by income from landing fees, gate rentals, emplanement charges, etc. In the bizarre event that AA decided to commit hari kari by unwinding its massively profitable hub, thereby forcing the bonds into default, a bond insurance company (not taxpayers) would be on the hook. Taxpayers simply have no stake in DFW Airport.
2) Dallas and Fort Worth residents speak with one voice when it comes to Wright Amendment repeal, both are overwhelmingly in favor of throwing this protectionist piece of crAAp out the window. It's only a handful of Ft. Worth politicians that are closely aligned with AA (and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison) who are opposed.
