Seriously though, back when I used to do this, I usually padded the legs that I couldn't upgrade with 500's with miles. I was doing EWR-LAX twice weekly so no way in hell I was doing that in coach.

Why can I never find these fares at a reasonable price? Last night, I had to suck it up and buy some 500-milers, because the cheapest First ticket would have been like $1000 more than what I could get in coach.

Is there some kind of secret to QUAUP fares?
