I didn't get to do that during my time in the military and I was pretty disappointed to be honest.

If it's raining I suppose there are very few people watching, but did you know you can actually enter the castle?
A large part of the royal castle is open to the public for a modest entrance fee and I can warmly recommend it.
You can for example see the guest appartments where visiting royal people stay when in Stockholm.
