That SQ006 accident report is interesting reading. It seems a majority of the cabin crew responded to the accident by "shaking and weeping" or fleeing the aircraft. No evacuation order was issued and the report criticizes crew members for neglecting to perform any mandated emergency procedures.
In truth this is not solely a "Singapore Girl" problem. You read any NTSB report of survivable emergencies involving US carriers, and there is almost always mention of some flight attendants panicking, crying, freezing up, fainting, etc. (I remember a NY Times account of a USAir emergency landing a few years ago... an experience made unimaginably worse by the lead flight attendant who wept and sobbed over the PA as she delivered the brace instructions.)
At the end of the day I do not believe a majority of flight attendants on any airline would rise to the occasion and perform the required procedures in an emergency, this week's AF/YYZ "miracle" notwithstanding.
