With LH op-ups either happen before checkin or at the gate.

Another chance is if all seats in Y are taken when you checkin a bit late. In such case the automated checkin also aborts and send you to the counter.

sorry, my girlfriend used all time the checkin maschine. If lufthansa have already upgrated her, the maschine also print the bp with "C". She used only etix.
