First, there's no such thing as a Hindu vegetarian meal offered by United.
There's Indian Vegetarian (IVML) and Asian Vegetarian (AVML), and a Hindu meal, but the Hindu meal is not (theoretically) necessarily vegetarian, but in practice it mirrors the Indian Vegetarian meal because UA catering is too lazy to care.
Second, the vegetarian meals in United Business SUCK. Why? Because they are the same as the coach meals. Having flown probably 250+ segments where I've had to tolerate their vegetarian slop, I think I'm qualified to speak on this issue.
OK-- some details:
Indian vegetarian at best consists of two curries (one with paneer, one without) something trying to be a naan, basmati rice, and a little square Habshi Halwa (cashew). At worst, and 50% of the time out of O'Hare which has led me to STOP FLYING OUT OF O'HARE ON MY FLIGHTS TO ASIA, it has been a few boiled potatoes or zucchini and steamed rice. DISGUISTING. And yes, this is in business class. On short flights, it tends to be a fruit salad with chopped up nuts on top. Weird, I'm not sure what's particularly Indian about this.
Asian vegetarian varies more. On hot meals, it tends to be large slabs of tofu with some vegetable stir-fry and rice around it. On short flights, it tends to be a decent cold soba noodle salad (I do a dance for joy when I get this because it's the only thing I consider to be edible).
Bottom line, meals vary a lot by catering station (it has nothing to do with the composition of the passengers on the flight, for example 838 does not have better Indian food out of Narita just because it originates in Singapore-- if you belive this, colourmix you're deluded!).
Here are some notes on Indian veg. out of various stations. I can't do this for AVML, but perhaps someone else can.
NRT: passable, though the bread sucks.
HKG: very good, but salty. no Habshi Halwa, you get Gulab Jamun instead as well as a nice papaya and pineapple salad.
LHR: excellent (the best system-wide, no great surprise)
FRA: very good
SIN: very good breakfast
BKK: ks_8999: do NOT order the Indian veg breakfast out of BKK, it consists of oily spring rolls and some strange curry. yes, I'm serious. I did it once and vowed not to do it again, forgot and three years later, it was the same thing.
SFO: passable.
ORD: very inconsistent, ranging from passable to atrocious, inedible, and a disgrace. if UA ever starts up ORD-DEL again and tries this nonsense, they'll be beaten up by the Indians on board.
LAX: good (it's really the best station domestically)
IAD: inconsistent, but ranging from good to passable.
PHL: good (second-best domestically)
Bottom line, it's gotten to the point where I'm thinking of varying the airlines I fly on because I can't stand United's veg food anymore. Perhaps that's crazy but maybe some other veg. frequent flyers understand...
