I have to agree with the OP. I flew about 14,000 miles on Frontier last year and about 25,000 on United, and found the service on Frontier to be far superior. Direct TV makes up for Ch9, and there isn't much else of a difference on a domestic flight anyway. UA's international routes and the * alliance earning and redemption opportunities are what help UA, in my eyes. If F9 could tie up with a reasonably good world alliance, that would make me choose Frontier for every domestic flight
