If I were you, I'd tell your friend to redeem the miles immediately and take you with him. Otherwise I don't see what this really has to do with you. I highly doubt Delta is going to "feel really bad" about accidentally giving you a huge chunk of miles and they're definitely not going to give you even more miles. They'll probably just take them back if notified of the mistake.
