Is hubbing a lot of your flights through one station YYZ ,a good stategy?
Yesterday, we saw the impact of a force majeure event at YYZ. The airport was completely shut down.
In fact any major weather disruption in YYZ causes AC major headaches.
Hence the question: Is AC too dependant on YYZ as a hub?
The introduction of the Embraers and the 705 will take some of the pressure from YYZ with the introduction of point to point direct flights bypassing YYZ.
IMHO, No.
AC has YUL as well on the east coast although I accept it is not so much of a hub as YYZ. The hub-and-spoke model is still very valid for the legacy international carriers where large wide-bodies come in from long-haul destinations with the pax then connecting on to smaller airports.
