If you can tear your boss' entourage away from the (albeit luxury) chains, a couple of slightly offbeat, but equally sumptuous recommendations:
The Sukantara, Chiang-Mai.
www.sukantara.com Haven't stayed here, but we saw a print ad whilst staying at the FS in May and drive over for a look at one of the villas and a drink. Awesome setting and very personal - family run.
Kirimaya Resort, Khao Yai.
www.kirimaya.com Stayed there for 3 nights last week. Will be where Mrs-Meerkat-to-be will become Mrs Meerkat early next year !

Lovely resort - a bit like a Banyan Tree Phuket, but up in the mountains. Khao Yai is Thailand's oldest National Park and is about 2 hours from Bangkok (1hr 30 from the airport). There's a Niklaus designed golf course on the resort if that's of your boss' persuasion.
Would highly recommend renting a car for either of the 2 properties.
