I saw a news report saying that Skype was rumoured to almost been bought by Rupert Murdoch for $3 Billion last year. Other rumours say it will be bought for $1 billion. My guess is that Skype is pushing real hard now to get a big payday from some fool. So they are trying hard to add subscribers and push up the perceived value of the company. They know that now is the best time for that.
