Most hotel systems allow them to transfer room and tax or all charges to another folio. The charges do need to post to the origional room but then can be automatically transfered to the other folio.
Although the systems allow them to program this in prior to or at check-in, many clerks are not so tallented using the system and errors occur and it is therefore a good idea to mention it to the night clerk after 11 pm the night before check-out of the second room and he or she can make sure it has been handled correctly prior to billing.
This is a very frequent request at all business class hotels.
