I did the same thing a few weeks ago. flying AM from MEx to CDG with one ticket. thenflyinf with AF from CDH to ZRH with a dfiirerent ticket.(saved 600 usd that way).
I had two very heavy pieces of luggage, when i asked the agent that checked me in she had to ask a supervisor to do it. it gets a little tricky but they fir sure can do it for you.
Normally in europe the weigh limitations are more strict than the long flights from the us to europe. As long you comply with CO, KLM should pick your bags in Europe and transfer them to the next flight to Prague with no problem.\
If the agent at the counter gives you a hard time ask to talk with a supervisor. and they have to do it. is aprt of the SKY TEAM ALLIANCE!!!
