CHEAH UI-HOON finds out what's in store for Singapore Airlines passengers, as top chefs on the airline's culinary panel brainstorm ideas
'IF we tell you, we'll have to shoot you.' All right, the Singapore Airlines management representatives didn't quite say that, but they sure implied it, when quizzed about possible F&B plans for the Airbus A380 which SIA will be the first to fly when the double-decker planes roll out of their hangars next year.
Unfortunately, there aren't many mechanical innovations in the A380's galleys or kitchens despite the new technology used in the aircraft, disclosed Hermann Freidanck, SIA's F&B manager. And open flames in an aircraft are still a no-no. But nonetheless, planning for 'something special' is under way, and yes, one of the possibilities includes flying the chefs from its luminous International Culinary Panel on certain flights or routes.
