amex is very good about posting the temporary credit..
then they do the legwork for you..

sometimes they will ask for additional info...

i was disputing a early checkout charge in las vegas due to a family medical emergency..the hotel had no record..
i had to show my plane tickets where I came in at 3pm and then left again on the redeye.. finally received it as permanent and amex did all the work.
