Flight Credit due to Cancelled US Flight?

I was scheduled on a US flight from TN through CLT to ORD; however, due to weather (ultimately leading to a cancelled flight) I waited in the airport for 6.5 hours before being re-routed through ATL on DL and FL (AirTran). Am I eligible for MP flight credit due to the re-routing? I have gotten flight credit when a UA flight was re-routed, but I am not sure what the policy is for US flights.

Also, I received terribly poor service during the delay and am wondering if I have any leverage to complain to MP? US GAs were incredibly disorganized and did not make any annoucements during the entire 6.5 hours (as other carriers departed without delay). Plus, GAs randomly re-routed pax on other carriers (i.e., not based on status or missed connections). I was backed up by my corporate travel on the later US flight (that did take-off) but was not allowed on the flight by GAs due to take-off weight limits (even though I needed to make a CLT connection). When I tried to get on the flight, GA told me to not worry as my scheduled flight would be arriving shortly... As soon as the doors closed on the "later" flight, GAs announced my original flight was cancelled. I almost had to stay in TN overnight but was re-booked through ATL to MDW (on DL and FL). Overall, the experience was horrible -- I understand I'm not a Chairman's Preferred member, but I would expect some sort of service given my *A Gold status (at least above general members) and missed connection in CLT. Any recommendations on a course of action either with US or UA?

Thanks.
