As I have never really booked int'l awards and virtually never book 331 days out for a flight, it's difficult to weigh the pros/cons of locking in an itinerary this far out that I don't love, or trying month in and month out to see what 'opens up' down the road.

If you can book FB awards "only" 10 months ( 300 days ) in advance, I assume ( no hard evidence though ) that the same rule is applicable for requests from other airlines as well.So you should call again exactly 300 days in advance.
But once again, if you are looking for a seat on the nonstop LAX-AMS for the end of June 2006 and they give it to you in 30 days, it would surprise me a lot.
