Since JetStar started flying this route, there is now normally just the one daily direct QF flight between MEL and CNS (each way). Typically, these are operated by 73H's which have 12 J and 154 Y seats. So there are only 84 J seats per week available for sale on this sector.

This was my biggest worry when planning a DONE4. Last week my planned CNS-MEL segment in late October was showing: J6 D3 I1. That a minimum 6 seats booked over two months in advance. It's now showing J5 D2 I1. (I have one of those seats )

The same flight this week is showing: J0 D0 I0 U0 & the week after: J1 D1 I1 U0.

The reason for this lack of J seating is that Qantas consider CNS to be a liesure destination and as such are pushing JetStar on this sector. They are sending two A320's each way on a daily basis. That's 354 LCC seats.

Add that 354 to the 73H's 154 Y seats you get only 12 J out of 520 saleable seats each day.
