Interesting thread. Had the same experience, ended up on Expedia.com (with no add on fees) so I did give up the bonus miles (but would have had to if I called CO directly). Rather book it online. So I just remember to factor in any fees (for etix it appears to be Orbitz $5, Travelocity $10 and Expedia none).
