Logisitical nightmare, in my opinion. Someone's not thinking very hard when they come up with these things.
Next up: SSSS on your Metrocard!
I actually don't have a problem with random checks here and there as long as they're not absurd about it. If anything it will dissuade people (like me) from bringing big bags and packages on the train that annoy everyone else. And it
might dissuade a terrorist who was worried about getting caught and ending up part of Bubba's harem upstate rather than going to his private virginal harem in the sky.
Really, though, they should just take the (unfortunately abandoned) Israeli approach and hang up big bags of lard in each subway car, so that if a bomb goes off, the Islamic fundamentalist terrorist will go to Allah covered in pig fat, and be promptly rejected at the pearly gates. After all, reasonable swineaphobes (moderate religious Jews and Muslims) would know that pig fat wouldn't harm 'em in the spiritual realm. But the zealots crazy enough to think that blowing themselves up is "righteous" would probably be crazy enough to worry that bags of lard might put a kink in their plan for martyrdom.
