You can buy them in increments of 1,000. I think they were running around $32/1,000 at one point.
You could also buy a prestige pack. For $99/$119 you get a few CO coupons, several thousand miles. Do a search in the CO forum as there have been a few threads on them earlier this year.
Were I in your shoes, I would call first to find out if there was availability, and only pick up a prestige pack if the upgrade were able to clear.
