New LIM Terminal

So maybe this is in the wrong place, but I thought it would be useful.

It appears that the new terminal in Lima is (finally) open for business. I was there yesterday for far longer than expected and got to walk around - here is some info.

The Departure Tax (currently US$28.24) can be paid at the checkin counter for most airlines - certainly LAN.

They have gotten rid of the good ice cream place in the upstairs above the checkin area, and replaced it with McDonald's, Papa John, and Dunkin Donuts, as well as 2 'Peruvian' restaurants. Yesterday LAN was giving its clients a free meal at any of the above - I'm not sure if this is because they just opened, or because our flight was delayed. There is only one restaurant after clearing immigration into the gates, and it is far pricier than any of these choices.

There appears to be one VIP lounge which is shared among some or all of the airlines - rumors in other fora here that AA elites don't have access to this on AA flights - I can't confirm.

Lots of comfy seating, and expensive shopping. Tasty free chocolate and coffee samples in the duty free.

The arrivals area is much calmer than LIM past, for both domestic and international flights. This is a real step up.

So that is it. There are some weird quirks, like passengers coming off arriving flights having to cross past gates of boarding flights on their way to immigration - they really need stoplights or something. But at least you don't have to walk/bus on the tarmac any more - unless you are at gates 25-28, which are downstairs.

I hope this is useful - not really a trip report as such, but as anyone who has been to LIM (and not gotten to the rest of the country on this trip) can agree, there ain't much to tell anyway. Fog, traffic, and strikes are still the same. Food is still tasty and cheap.
