I travel to South Africa once a year and the Delta - SAA hook up was terrible..... Few seats for Skymiles memebers and then there was no way to upgrade from coach to business, only outright full redemption in C.

Hopefully United and Star Alliance will inprove that situation.

I would anticipate that SAA's inventory control team would release a number of award seats to the *A partner airlines similar if not identical to what it allocates to it's current partners. IMHO It might be even harder to score an award seat on SAA with so many more partners competing for those seats.
