Much like weather situations, nothing can be done until it acutally happens. For example: If the weather channel is predicting bad weather at your destination airport, you can't change your flight based on that. You would have to wait until the flight is acutally cancelled. Even if a mechanic strike happens, that doesn't mean the airline is grounded.
