Help! Jetstar rescheduled my flight 13 hours earlier! What can QF do?

Hi -

I was scheduled to fly on Jetstar in August leaving Sydney at 19:45 and arriving in Cairns at 22:50 or so. However, we just received notice from Jetstar that our flight has been either cancelled or rescheduled so as to now be at 7:00!!! This is of course a major problem for us as we'll be visiting Australia from the States and this would take away one of our days in Sydney.

I know in the US that if a carrier reschedules a flight more than 6 hours due to weather/mechanical/rescheduling/etc than they are obligated to help you get on a flight more similar to your original one, even if its on another carrier. I'm wondering whether in this case it would be reasonable to ask Jetstar to put us on a Qantas flight leaving Sydney at 19:20, a 25 minute instead of 13 hours difference. Especially since Jetstar is owned by Qantas, should we have luck getting them to do this?
