As it turns out, my ticket class was M/K and I earned a paltry 183 (+183 'tier bonus') for each leg. And no Tier Points!

For future reference, how can I be sure that if I pay for a ticket, I actually earn miles and TP for it?

Bonus question: is there any way of telling what fare class your ticket is, without having to phone up BA once you've booked it? BA.com Manage My Booking doesn't seem to say anywhere.
When you book the ticket, on the screen that tells you about the class you've booked etc., it also tells you about the change/refund penalties.

First of all, my understanding is that you will earn full or more miles on all classes except completely restricted economy.

If it's WT+, Club Europe, Club World, or First, you'll get TPs and full miles.

If it's Economy (WT):

If it says "This is not changable or refundable" for a leg, that means it's deep discount economy, completely restricted, and will give you no TPs, and 0.25 miles. If you use the option of "Increase Flexibility" this will get you the cheapest points/miles earning flight. (by miles earning, I mean >25%)

If it says "Changable/upgradable for a fee (e.g. £30)" then that's semi-flexible, and will give you the TPs and miles.

Also, in the segment details box, it should say "This flight is elible for you to join the EC" or similar if you are not logged in, or "This could earn you x tier points" if you are logged in.

If it doesn't match the above, then check the fare class by doing a dummy booking on Expedia and looking at the fare rules.
