This is a completely useless statistic, as there are so many variables. Method of booking (web vs. non-web), partners flown, etc., will impact it, and significantly at that. Perhaps before the EQM nonsense started the miles to segments ratio would have been more meaningful, and could be used to determine who flies primarily short, long, or international hauls.
My EQM : EQP ratio goes up in the bottom half of the year. Why? Because I already requalified for Plat, and I don't care about EQM as much, so I start flying NW. So I keep earning EQM (although sometimes at a reduced rate), but with no points. Similarly, if CO shorts me on EQM, I don't bother correcting them, as there's no benefit once that 75K is reached.
