Joe,
What you were offered sounds quite reasonable. I took a CO flight overseas last year where the Audio/Video was shut off during flight because of an electrical problem. Pilot came on, apologized, and said it's best to be safe as he suspected a possible short.
CO didn't give me, or any other passenger squat. I called the 1-800-we-care, wrote a letter to CO, and even as a NW Platinum, CO did nothing. They could have done at least something, considering I paid good money for the flight. It was a 100% EQM fare. To add insult to injury, CO didn't even have UK landing forms on-board, which had to be obtained upon arrival and completed before going through immigrations.
NWA, on the other hand, seems to be good about accomodating passengers with vouchers / service recovery packs - even for minor problems with IFE, but the value goes up if you are a WBC passenger.
I once got a nice discount & mileage voucher because NW 32 (DTW-LGW) took a delay to accomodate passengers from the cancelled BA flight from DTW-LHR. NWA has always had the appropriate landing forms on board for DTW-LGW & MSP-LGW, as well as KLM on the AMS-LHR route.
The 25k mileage, should you choose it, is a free US domestic flight -- the $250 can be used to discount a fare which you earn miles on. The AMS-BOS route is also one of the shorter NW trans-Atlantics and I think it was quite reasonable. However, If you paid full J for your ticket and still feel short-changed, feel free to write nwa with the "Talk to us" link. I felt short changed from CO, but they couldn't be bothered to do a damn thing; at least NWA is good in this area.
