Compensation for no AV on transatlantic flight?

I recently came back AMS-BOS in a DC-10 and there was no audio in the row (2) I was sitting in. It was very crackily and you couldn't use either the music or the movie. Fine, I had other things to do but I did complain to the purser who gave me a slip for either 25,000 miles or $250 reduction on a ticket purchase. This seemed more than reasonable to me but I wondered later if this was the standard rate, should I have fussed more etc.

What have others experienced in this situation?

Thanks for information

Joe
