Hooray. I am engaged!
No, I am already married, so this is not about my marital status – it is about my AA Idine status. Recently I got an email telling me that I was an "engaged" member. What this really means is I now get 3 miles/$ at participating restaurants instead of 5 miles/$.
So, it looks to me like the folks at AA Idine, taking a page from George Orwell’s newspeak, say that "engaged" means "enhanced," which today means "lessened, reduced, fewer, not as good, or not as much as, a take-away, example: “an enhanced Frequent Flyer Program...”
That is assuming what I learned in first grade (5 is greater than 3) is still correct. It also look like an "engaged" member does do not as well as an "ordinary" member recently who got 5 miles/$, or an "old" member who remembers when you got 10 miles/$.
Idine can’t offer more miles to us than the restaurants are willing to pay Idine for belonging. So if Idine said, "We can’t afford to give you 5 miles we will starting giving your 3," I would understand that. But "engaged," that’s bafflegab, gobbledegook, PR speak, spin.
As W. C. Fields would, "It baffles science!"
