The very act of trying to learn some of a foreign language and the very honorable act of trying to learn enough to keep the english to an absolute minimum I think completely negates the "ugly" title. Even if you go to a country where you don't know any of the language doesn't make you "ugly" as long as you are respectful of the host culture and try to learn as much about it as you can while minimizing any geocentric philosophies you may have.
