I do not see anything regarding "18 months"!
It's the same issue as with NW. If you look at the T&C clause right after the one you quote (the one entitled Inactive Membership), you'll see:
If no mileage is deposited in your account for 18 consecutive months, commencing after June 1, 2001, your membership will be cancelled, and your miles may be forfeited.
So while your miles may not expire, your account can. And that's just as bad.
