However, even with that, their gas is so bad (sulfur) that is just isn't worth it.

ESSO had to comply to the new sulphur regs by April of this year I believe and have done so.
BTW all gas is pretty much the same and in fact in certain parts of the country shell buys its gas from esso and vice versa. Its all a big brand marketing game.
