I am planning a trip to Maui about a week prior to Christmas and have a few questions some of you old Hawaii hands might could help me with:

I am staying at either the Kapaula Bay Hotel, Rennaissance Wailea, or Marriott Wailea. It will be myself, wife and 7 year old daughter. We love to eat in Lahaina at I'O, PAcific O and may even do the Feast at Lele this time.

Here are the questions:

The Kapalua is closer to Lahaina but will it be more rainy there than the Wailea properties? WIll the bay be ok in December for the 7 year old?

Should I split my time between Kapalua and Wailea or will that just be a PITA?

All three properties get mixed reviews on tripadvisor and flyertalk, so I am thoroughly confused as to which to pick. Any current advice is well appreciated.

We like to spend some time at the beach including snorkeling, some time seeing the sights, and lots of time eating and relaxing if that helps.
