The SYD-JNB flight goes go over the ice, not ever the dead center pole but you go over the ice, you can see the flight path line over the ice with ice on both sides, that is how far south you go and how far into the ice you go.

The jnb-syd sector you dont go over the ice. I made the flight last year, it is an incredible sight to see these huge ice sheets with cracks in them, it is an incredile sight but I found my self putting my sunglasses on due to the glare and how bright it was.

The pilot came over the intercom to announce to the pax to look out the window to look.

It iwas over 14hours of flying syd-jnb and just short of 12 and a half from jnb-syd, due to winds and you go a lot further south on the syd-jnb leg.

awesome sight.
