Actually, to be fair, it's ADP (the glorious Aeroports de Paris) which controls the allocation of gates, etc. AF has a whole bunch of a/c that are stuck out at the remote parking stands as well...
All DL flights now check in at Terminal 2E. As the gates (with jetways) section of T2E is still not usable (that's the part that collapsed), all DL boarding these days is by stairs. Some of the a/c are parked directly at the T2E tarmac area but some are parked remotely (very remotely) at the T2E extension terminal (with its own AF Lounge and duty free shops). Generally, the 777s have been parked at the T2E area while the JFK/India flights have been out at the remote area.
