I agree with KenJohn - the gay scene in Phuket is more or less based on Thai men looking for a foreign "generous" friend (however if they fancy you, you do not pay afterwards!)

The gay scene in Bali is smaller and quieter. You will find Indonesian men approaching single foreign males at mixed places like Double Six and de-ja-vu in Seminyak, let alone at Q Bar (exclusively gay). Some of them will also expect payment afterwards, so you better ask in advance.
