If you have access to the AAdmirals Club, then LAX is one of the better ones, IMHO. You can leave your luggage there and grab a shower upon your return from a day in the sand. I've never checked luggage thru LAX, so not sure what the general luggage storage options are.
Grab a taxi over to Manhattan Beach (5-10 minute ride) or any numberof towns near it. Great beach, great beach town, great local Flyertalkers (paging SkiAdcock....) etc.
Public tranport is also just out the door beyond baggage claim...can't recall if it's the Blue Bus or the Green Bus, but it will take you to Venice Beach and/or the Santa Monica Pier in minutes. (great people watching, good place to very affordably rent a bike and go up the Strand, several good food spots, and of course, the sunset over the ocean).
Walk across the street from the airport to In & Out Burgers.
And the list goes on.....
Thanks for that, it sounds less daunting already!

I will have access to the Admirals club so that sounds great if I can leave my baggage there.

Cheers for the advice
