A lot of comments on this thread about the card. Well, whether you like it or not, it is there, but I would like to add a bit of historical info.

Alaska Airlines was very close to ending operations in 1972. This is before deregulation and all that entailed. The operation was just out of money...broke.

A new team took over the airline. I have heard stories of how it happened...none that I really believe, but the takeover of such a small operation was not something for the WSJ.

Ron Cosgrave took over the airline, and with him was Bruce Kennedy, who, down the road, went on to become President and CEO until 1991. Mr. Kennedy had very strong religious feelings, and I really think (just my guess) that the card originated with him.

Bruce Kennedy took charge in 1979 when AS had (count 'em) 10 airplanes! And the only city served in the lower 48 was SEA. So the airline has expanded well since then. The future remains uncertain, but that is for another thread.

Alaska Air has always had a strong tie to Christianity, as after his retirement in 1991, Kennedy went on to missionary work. The most interesting thing I find is that Alaska Air Group bought property from a Christian Church.

Now, if you happen to live in Seattle, you know that there is a big church complex, just a few miles south of SEA, called Christian Faith Center. A number of years ago they started on a big building campaign, to include a bible college.

Things happen, and while the bible college never got off the ground, the building for it was built. Which was bought by Alaska and turned into the Gold Coast Center.

This is not necessarily a bad thing. Alaska needed the office space at the time, and perhaps they got a good price for the property. I just add this to indicate that I perceive that there is a bias toward "friends".

IMHO, Alaska has always been a good airline, one that tries to do it right. Perhaps a bit mis-directed today, but I have never tried to run an airline.

I do know that when our family budget is running red, we must do what we can......make more money or decrease expenses..and we do. I see Alaska (as painful as that is) doing the same.

A biblical card on a tray table may be an offense to some, neutral to others, and OK to the rest. But I'll bet it becomes something worth a lot of money down the road to some folks on ebay. Seems like everything else has.

But I don't see it turning a lot of people away from flying on their planes.
